The customer photographs an article of clothing and a Comparel chart on a flat surface. This is a one-time step for each article of clothing. Photos are uploaded to the customer's account on your website.
The angle and distance between the camera and clothing will differ when taking photos and result in different views of the clothing. To accommodate, Comparel uses data from the chart in uploaded images to automatically scale and rectify images to the same “space”. This allows all clothing to be viewed from a “top down” perspective and standardized scale regardless of the original angle or distance from the camera. All image processing occurs on your server - independent apps are not needed.
If desired, images can be segmented by the Comparel program to remove the background. This process can be performed by edge detection, alpha matting, machine learning or other computer vision techniques.
